The 17-year-old came on as a substitute against Newcastle.
Rejected European giants
Shola Shoretire had attracted interest from big clubs like Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona but he turned them all down to commit his future to the Red Devils instead!
The fact that he’s been turning the heads of some of the best clubs in Europe at just 17 speaks volumes about his abilities on the field.
UEFA Youth League record
When he was 14 years and 314 days, Shoretire made his debut for the U19s team in the UEFA Youth League – becoming the youngest ever to feature in the competition.
However, this isn’t new for him. At 13, Shola took part in the Milk Cup (SuperCupNI) – even though it’s technically for the U16s.
As a matter of fact, Shoretire also scored in the FA Youth Cup quarter-final after finishing a hard day at school!
Versatile monster
The teenager can play on both wings as well as up top. In the current season, he’s scored thrice from the right wing, twice from the left and once as a striker.
According to Transfermarkt, he is right-footed and can also play in the midfield. Clearly, the Red Devils have a very exciting talent at hand.
Amad Diallo factor
In a recent 6-4 win over Blackburn U23s, Amad Diallo – another one of our young gems – provided three assists as Shola happily scored a hat-trick.
Now, imagine the duo working their magic on the field for the first team. If things go as planned, it won’t be long before that day arrives!
How do you pronounce his name?
The 17-year-old has Nigerian roots, so his last name should not sound like it would’ve under the English language norms.
The commentators during the game pronounced his name as ‘Shor-ay-ti-reh’, and that’s the variant confirmed by the club’s official website.
And how do fans feel about Shola?
I’m actually really surprised that Shoretire got on tonight, but it’s a great achievement for him and it shows how well-rated he is by United.

This is what Manchester United is about. Shoretire has been thriving in the U23s, was rewarded with a match-day experience in the EL against Sociedad, and now he makes his PL debut off the bench. Step by step integration of academy players.
