Rashford closes in on Sir Bobby Charlton record after goal vs Sociedad

The Englishman has now scored in both European competitions for United this season.

Marcus Rashford’s goal vs Real Sociedad was his 7th goal in European competitions for Man United this season.

Excluding those scored in qualifiers, this is the most goals scored by an Englishman in European competitions in a single season for United since Sir Bobby Charlton scored 8 in the 1964-65 season.

Charlton scored 8 goals in the Fairs Cup in that season, a few years before United won their first-ever European Cup (now known as the Champions League).

Rashford scored his 17th goal (in all competitions) for United this season with his strike vs Sociedad and also registered an assist for Bruno Fernandes’ opener against Sociedad.
