‘He knows he’ll have to make things happen himself’: Solskjaer defends Martial’s recent form at United

The gaffer says he’s pleased to see how hard Martial has been working in training for the Red Devils recently.

Ole insists that the Frenchman has enough quality and class to bounce back from this poor run of form.

When asked about his thoughts on Anthony Martial’s performances as of late, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “Anthony knows what we want, and he is working really hard to do well for the team and that’s what is pleasing me the most when I see him every day in training.

“He is not going to sit down and wait for things to happen, he knows he will have to make it happen himself and we encourage him, we coach him, and we know he has going this quality and class.

“Everyone goes through difficult patches from time to time and I think we saw again tonight, he is working hard and that is the main thing.”

Martial’s last goals came in the 9-0 thrashing of Southampton, when he scored a brace after coming off the bench.

However, the Frenchman’s standards have dipped since then and he hasn’t scored in the last 5 games for the Red Devils. With Edinson Cavani dealing with some injury issues, Ole will hope Martial steps up and rediscovers his best form as the business end of the season approaches.
