Tanzanian superstar, Naseeb Abdul Juma professionally known as Diamond Platnumz, has taken to reveal some interesting new details about the remix of his song, Number One, with Nigerian singer, Davido.
Speaking with Nairobi News, the singer opened up about how he almost went broke in 2013, at a time his musical career had started to blossom.
The 31-year-old who was already famous in East and Central Africa decided to try his luck in the West African area and this is where Davido came in.
In September 2013, Platnumz released his hit track Number One which to date has 7 million views on Youtube.
“Before doing the first video version of Number One at Ogopa Djs in Nairobi, my video cost used to be about US$ 3,000 (N1.1m) per video. With Number One, I went 10 times higher and spent US$30,000 (N11.4 million) or thereabout to fly Ogopa Djs video crew to Cape Town, South Africa, and shoot my video. The outcome was amazing, and that gave me the green light to approach Davido for a remix.”
His decision to get Davido on a remix of the song saw him almost going broke as he had to take loans from the bank to shoot the music video for the song.
“I took loans from Tanzania banks to finance my video and collaboration with Davido in Lagos because I had to travel there with my crew,” he said.
Well, it is clear to see that Diamond never regrets risking it all as the remix proved to be a success opening up a new market in the West African region for the Tanzanian talent.
Number one remix which was released in January 2014 amassed over 43 million views on Youtube.
