Angola’s new diamond development hub to boost cutting capacities

Angola has unveiled the Saurimo diamond development hub, seeking to consolidate its position as a leading diamond-cutting producer, Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas Diamantino Azevedo said Friday.

The hub will increase the production of stones and precious metals, the minister said at the inauguration ceremony, adding that it will help achieve the target of cutting 20 percent of locally-produced diamonds in Angola.

The hub, with an initial investment of around 77 million U.S. dollars, covers an area of more than 300,000 square meters in eastern Lunda Sul province.

Azevedo said that the step is in line with Angola’s National Development Plan for 2018-2022.
